- Content is inconsistent with regard to purpose of assignment and clarity of thought.
Good/Excellent (20-25 points)

- Content is comprehensive, accurate, and addresses the assignment.
- Ideas are presented in a clear and understandable manner with appropriate logic.
- Major points are stated clearly and are well supported.
- Research on the topic is adequate, and addresses course concepts.
- Content and purpose of the writing are clear.
Organization & Structure

Poor/Fair (0-14 points)

- Organization and lack of structure detract from the message or conclusions of the writer.
- Paragraphs disjointed and lack an awareness of transition of thoughts.
- Topic statements missing or unclear.
- Supporting sentences too lengthy/wordy, or repetitive.
Fair/Good (15-19 points)

- Structure of the paragraphs is not easy to follow.
- Paragraph transitions need improvement.
-Reference citations need to show better relation to topic.
Good/Excellent (20-25 points)

- Structure of the writer's paragraphs is clear and easy to follow.
- Paragraphs built of good supporting sentences that speak to a clear topic sentence in each paragraph.
- References easily relate to topic.
Grammar, Punctuation & Spelling

Poor/Fair (0-14 points)

- Paper contains numerous grammatical, punctuation, and spelling errors.
- Language uses jargon or conversational tone not appropriate for assignment
Fair/Good (15-19 points)

- Paper contains few grammatical, punctuation and spelling errors.
- Language at times lacks clarity or includes the use of some jargon, passive constructions, or conversational tone.
Good/Excellent (20-25 points)

- Rules of grammar, usage, and punctuation are followed; spelling is correct.
- Language is clear and precise.
Format

- Paper lacks many elements of correct formatting.
