Mask Explanation Paragraph #1 This section includes a brief description of the character (including flat/round/antagonist/protagonist identification), things said which led to	Poor The character has been identified by name and play and a one-three sentence description has been written, BUT no attempt has been made to identify the character as flat/round/antagonist/ protagonist. The explanation does not contain anything said by or about the character which might have contributed to student understanding of this character.	Fair The character has been identified by name and play and a one-three sentence description has been written. No attempt has been made to identify the character as flat/round/antagonist/ protagonist. The explanation contains a paraphrase of something said by or about the character which might have contributed to student understanding of this character.	Good The character has been identified by name and play and a one-three sentence description has been written.The character has been identified as flat/round/antagonist/ protagonist. The explanation includes quotations from the play which might have contributed to student understanding of this character.
Mask Explanation, Paragraph #2 This paragraph should include an explanation of the symbolism behind the mask, to include an explanation of the characteristics/traits presented, colors, scars, designs, shapes, or images depicted in the mask.	Poor An attempt has been made to explain the mask's creation, BUT the description fails to discuss the personality traits/characteristics revealed in the mask and why they were chosen. None of the guiding questions have really been addressed--OR--only two of the four guiding questions have been addressed.	Fair An attempt has been made to explain the mask's creation. The student has paraphrased the most important thing the character says about him/herself rather than including a direct quotation. Use of MLA Format The heading and the in-text (parenthetical) citations have been created following the correct MLA format. Good The heading has been created following the correct MLA format. The student has created in-text (parenthetical) citations in the proper MLA format for all quoted material.
Format, Grammar and Mechanics The assignment should be free of errors in grammar and mechanics. The assignment should be typed, double-spaced using 10-point Comic Sans font.	Poor The assignment has not been typed using the required font. It is a single- spaced document. The finished product contains more than five errors in grammar and mechanics.	Fair The assignment has been typed but did not use the correct font size or type. It is a double-spaced document. The finished product contains 3-4 errors in grammar and mechanics.	Good The assignment has been typed using the correct font style and size. It is a double-spaced document. There are 0- 2 errors in grammar and mechanics.
The Mask Masks should be well though out, neat, creative, and display a creative use of materials and symbolism to reveal the chosen personality traits/characteristics of the character.	Poor The mask does not really reveal any aspect(s) of the character's personality. The workmanship is untidy, shoddy, and unimaginative. Symbolism and effective use of color and available materials is not evident in the finished product. It is not evident that much thought has gone in to this project because no planning sheet (mask template) was turned in with the assignment.	Fair The mask reveals aspect(s) of the character's personality. Symbolism is evident in the design. Materials have been effectively and creatively used, but workmanship is untidy. There is some evidence of planning because the planning sheet (mask template) has been turned in with the assignment.	Good The mask reveals aspect(s) of the character's personality. Symbolism is evident in the design. Materials have been effectively and creatively used. The workmanship is neat, tidy, and very attentive to detail.The planning sheet (mask template) was turned in with the assignment. Changes to the original design may have been noted.
