	Does Not Meet Standards 40 pts	Approaching Standards 65 pts	Almost Meets Standards 80 pts	Meets Standards 90 pts	Exceed Standards 100 pts
Rate / Smoothness	Does Not Meet Standards Student read at a slow, laborious rate. Student makes frequent pauses, hesitations, false starts, sound outs, and/or multiple attempts.	Approaching Standards Student read words either too quickly or with uncomfortable pauses. Many words are sounded out. Several breaks in smoothness caused by difficulties with specific words. Often sounds choppy or skips words.	Almost Meets Standards Student reads at least 85% of words with smooth, conversational, comfortable rate. Any miscues are self-corrected. Rarely sounds choppy or skips words.	Meets Standards Student reads 95% of words with smooth conversational, comfortable rate. Any miscues are self-corrected.	Exceed Standards Student read all words with smooth, conversational, comfortable pace. There are no miscues.
