Journal/Prompts 20 points maximum
	Excellent 5 pts	Above Average 4 pts	Average 3 pts	Below Average 2 pts	Poor 1 pts
Mechanics/grammar 20 %	Excellent - Journal entry is neat and legible. - No spelling, punctuation and/or grammatical errors.	Above Average -Legible handwriting -1-3 combined errors in spelling, grammar and/or punctuation.	Average -Legible handwriting - 4-5 combined errors in spelling, grammar and/or punctuation.	Below Average -Handwriting difficult to read. -6 combined errors in spelling, grammar and/or punctuation.	Poor -Unable to read handwriting. -7 or more combined errors in spelling, grammar and/or punctuation.
Critical thinking 20 %	Excellent - Responses show the student has put a great deal of thought into what he/she writes. - The ideas are complex and show thinking that is "outside the box." - Understands the prompt/	Above Average -Student demonstrates depth of thought, but may not be pushing his/ her ideas toward original ways of looking at the topic.	Average -Entry is a surface-level interpretation of the topic.	Below Average -Entry feels rushed and lacks much depth of thought.	Poor -Entry does not demonstrate depth of thought and does not pertain to the assigned prompt.
Content 40 %	Excellent Entry is complete. All aspects of the prompt have been fully addressed.	Above Average Entry is complete. All aspects of the prompt have been touched upon, but 1 or more may not be fully developed.	Average 1 aspect of the prompt has not been addressed.	Below Average 2 aspects of the prompt have not been addressed. (when applicable)	Poor 3 or more aspects of the prompt have not been addressed. (when applicable)
