Persuasive Writing
	Poor 1 pts	Fair 2 pts	Good 3 pts	Excellent 4 pts
Main/Topic Idea Sentences	Poor The topic does not appear in either the first or last sentence.	Fair The topic is not stated in the first sentence but is stated in the last.	Good First sentence states the topic clearly but the last sentence does not restate the topic clearly.	Excellent First sentence states the topic clearly and is restated in the closing sentence.
Supporting Detail Sentences	Poor Writing does not have any convincing reasons. The reader does not understand what I want them to do.	Fair Writing has only one convincing reason. The reader has an idea of what I want them to do.	Good Writing has only two convincing reasons. The reader understands what I want them to do.	Excellent Writing has three or more convincing reasons. The reader knows exactly what I want them to do.
Handwriting neatness	Poor Writing is not able to be read.	Fair Writing can be read but is not neatly done and there are problems in the size and space of letters	Good Writing is nicely done, but some problems with size and space.	Excellent Writing is nicely spaced and with the correct letter size. Handwriting is beautifully done.
Mechanics and Grammar	Poor Writing has six or more errors in punctuation, capitalization, and spelling.	Fair Writing has three to five errors in punctuation, capitalization, and spelling.	Good Writing has one or two erros in pucuation, capitalization, and spelling.	Excellent Writing has no errors in puncuation, capitalization, and spelling.
