Are students working together to achieve the group goal? Are the groups established effectively?

Poor

Team members are chosen during lesson or by students. Team members choose own roles and responsibilities. Or team members do not contribute to assigned role to contribute to the goal.
Fair

Team members are chosen by teacher with little planning to no planning. Team members have identified roles but do not do their certain role to support the group. Or team members are taking over other student jobs to "help" instead of help them learn.
Good

Team members are chosen to work together by teacher but are done so at random or ineffectively. Team members have an identified role, but are unsure about how their roles contribute to the ultimate goal.
Effective

Team members are chosen by the teacher in order to work together effectively. Team members each have a defined role within the team that adds responsibility to the ultimate goal.
Group Goal

Is there a clear goal or outcome for the group?

The teams are instructed to set a goal and determine each members contributions to that goal.

The teams are instructed to reach a specific goal. The goal is determined by the team so students determine contributions.

The teams are instructed to design a outcome or reach a goal. The goal is determined by the teacher. The goal is an outcome that needs all members contributions or most team members.
Effective

The teams are instructed to design a specific outcome or reach a goal. This goal is determined by the teacher and is planned before the lesson. The goal is an outcome where all team members need to contribute to accomplish.
Individual Accountability

Is the individual working to reach the goal of the group?

Poor

The individual is not working on their role in order to support the goal. Doing little or no work. The individual is not working with other team members to contribute their role.
Fair

The individual is working on their role without contributing to the group or interacting with other team members. Or the individual is working to take over another team members role.
Good

The individual is working to contribute to the goal. The individual is working with others. The individual is motivated to help the group achieve.
Effective

The individual is working or contributing to the group by doing their role. The individual is supporting other team members for the benefit of the group. The individual is motivated to help the group achieve.
Communication and Problem Solving

Are the team members speaking to each other respectfully? Are team members working together when a problem occurs?

Poor

Team members are only showing 1 or less than 1 attribute. Team does not complete task due to communication or a problem.
Fair

Team members are only showing 2 of 4 attributes to support their team. Team still completes task.
Good

Team members are only showing 3 of 4 excellent attributes to support the team. Team still completes task.
Effective

Team members are showing all four of these attributes:
actively listening to each other, explaining ideas, using encouraging words, and completing roles based off support from the team.
Integration of Cooperative Learning

Is Cooperative Learning being used to support the learning of students in an effective manner?

Teacher uses cooperative learning with little to no planning as to the outcome of the learning.
Fair

Teacher uses cooperative learning to get students to interact and not as a means to support their learning. Roles are unclear or planning is ineffective.

Teacher uses cooperative learning to support student learning. The cooperative learning is not effective or is planned inefficiently. (large groups, unclear roles or responsibilities).
Effective

Teacher or instructor uses cooperative learning as a way to support their lesson and replace individual work. The cooperative learning structure is used effectively and planned for all team members to learn. Groups are small and diverse in order to be effective. Cooperative Learning roles are defined and practiced.
