This rubric is used to assess students' responses in a one page essay to an assigned movie. This writing rubric is used in all academic subjects.

Essay is weak on organization. Response is present but weak. <BR>

Essay have some organization.<BR>
Missing some information in the topic sentence or concluding sentence.<BR>
Limited on explanation. Weak on topic
Good

Essay is organized.<BR>
Have topic sentence and concluding sentence, but is missing some information in the body for explanation.<BR>
Stayed on topic
Excellent

Essay is organized.<BR>
Each sentence is well organized with a topic sentence, to explain answer and a concluding sentence. At least 5-8 sentences in the body. Stayed on topic
Grammar

Correct spelling, punctuation, grammar, and capitalization are used.

Poor

Numerous errors in all grammar conventions.
Fair

Some errors in spelling, grammar, or punctuation interfere with the overall response.
Good

1-2 errors occur in spelling, grammar, or punctuation, but they do not affect the overall response.
Excellent

No errors occur in spelling, no run ons, or punctuation errors.
Thesis

Poor

Does not have an adequate thesis or has a thesis that does not fulfill the requirements of the paper.
Fair

Has a weak thesis that fulfills the requirements of the paper.
Good

Has a thesis that fulfills the requirements of the paper.
Excellent

Has a strong thesis that fulfills the requirements of the paper.
Details from Movie

Poor

Uses barely any details from the movie to support the thesis that is written.
Fair

Uses a less than appropriate amount of details from the movie to support the thesis that is written.
Good

Uses an appropriate amount of explicit details from the movie to support the thesis that is written. Does not achieve the same level of detail as a 4 paper.
Excellent

Uses a significant amount of explicit details from the movie to support the thesis that is written.
