Scissors Skills

Cutting paper with scissors

Understands the purpose and function of scissors use.

Hold scissors using correct finger placement, and thumb facing up

Able to fully open and close blades of scissors on command.

Able to cut through a 1 inch strip of paper, and make snips in paper to create fringe.

Able to cut along a straight line with jagged (snips) and smooth continuous strokes.

Uses scissors safely to cut smoothly on a 1/16" curved line with multiple changes in direction.
Glueing Skills

Manipulation of glue and paper

Understands the purpose and function of glue sticks, liquid glue, paste, rubber cement.

Demonstrates the ability to open/close the desired adhesive dispenser (cover on glue stick, twist cap on liquid glue, jar cover on paste container).

Demonstrate the ability to apply the apporpriate amount of adhesive to the smaller item to complete the task.

Demonstrate the ability to manipulate the item that has the adhesive on it and move it toward the item that will receive it.

Able to adhere one paper/item to another effectively (not loose on edges, no excess glue showing)

Ruler skills

Manipulation of ruler for straight lines

Demonstrates the ablility to line up a ruler (unaccurately) and choosing to measure a straight line in inches or centimeters.

Demonstrates the ability to accurately line up a ruler to measure a staight line in inches or centimeters (self-chosen), but must recheck accuracy.

Demonstrates the ability to measure a straight line accurately and without rechecking in a teacher chosen style (inches or centimeters).

Demonstrates the ability to measure a figure with two straight lines accurately in a teacher chosen style (inches or centimeters).
