Your form or structure is evident but may not always be appropriate. The writer is able to convey a sense of experience. Some details do not contribute to the narrative. You may not sustain focus.
Good

The structure of the narrative is, for the most part, appropriate to the purpose and is responsive to the demands of the prompt. You are able to convey your experience.
Excellent

You are able to skillfully convey your experience.All of the details contribute to the narrative. You stayed on topic and maintained focus throughout the entire paper.
Progression

This section grades on how the flow of your story.

Poor

The progression is weak. There was a lot of repetition or wordiness that causes disruptions throughout the composition. Your narrative is unclear and difficult to follow.
Fair

The progression is inconsistent. Minor disruptions in the story line are distracting. Logical movement of the narrative is lacking.
Good

Narrative presentation is adequately controlled. The transitions are meaningful and you have sufficient support that creates a logical movement to your narrative.
Excellent

Your presentation is well controlled with meaningful transitions and logical movement. Every sentence enhances your narrative.
Development of ideas

How well did you develop your ideas in your composition?

Poor

Development of ideas are weak, inappropriate, vague, and insufficient to the story. They do not contribute to the writer's portrayal of the experience. The response to the prompt is only weakly linked to the prompt.
Fair

The development of the essay is minimal and it remains at a surface level because there are few details. There is little to no thoughtfulness. There is a limited understanding of the writing task.
Good

Specific details add some substance to the narrative. The details contribute to your experience. Your narrative reflects some thoughtfulness. You convey some sense of experience that is important to you.
Excellent

Specific, well chosen details add substance to your narrative. The details contribute to your portrayal of your experience. Your paper is thoughtful and engaging
Sentence Structure

Sentence usage and development of sentences

Poor

Too many errors in grammar, usage, or sentence structure which made it hard to read. Sentences are simplistic, awkward, and uncontrolled weakening the effectiveness of the narrative purpose.

Sentences are awkward or only somewhat controlled, weakening the effectiveness of the narrative. There were several areas that were hard to understand.

Your composition only covers a fourth of the page. It is hard to get your story across in so little of amount of writing.
