Completing the assigned readings for class PRIOR to the class meeting.

Exhibits little evidence of having read or thought about assigned material.

Sometimes arrives unprepared or with only superficial preparation.
Strong Work

Arrives fully prepared with all assignments completed, and notes on reading, observations questions.
Quality of Contribution

The ability to add to class discussions meaningfully and appropriately.

Unsatisfactory

Comments reflect little understanding of either the assignment or any previous remarks made within the class discussion.
Needs Development

Comments sometimes irrelevant, betrays a lack of preparation, or indicate a lack of attention to previous remarks from students or instructor.
Strong Work

Comments are relevant and reflect understanding of assigned text(s); previous remarks of other students; and insights about the assigned material.
Impact on Class

Contributions to class discussions or remarks made in class are appropriate and meaningful

Unsatisfactory

Comments do not advance the conversation or are actively detrimental to it.
Needs Development

Comments sometimes advance the conversation, but sometimes do little to move it forward appropriately.
Strong Work

Comment frequently help move the class discussion forward to a deeper understanding of the topic.
Frequency of Participation

How often the students speaks up in class with meaningful comments and insight into discussions.

Unsatisfactory

Seldom participates and is generally not engaged with the class.
Needs Development

Sometimes participates but at other times is "tuned out" or disengaged from class discussions.
Strong Work

Actively participates at appropriate times with comments that add to the group.
