Gingerbread Wars Cupcake Wars This rubric is a individual assessment of designing, mixing, baking, and decorating a gingerbread house by students. The scoring will be utilized as a assessment of creative design, following instructions, working independently with quality work at the level expected for each individual student. Competition Assessment

Creativity of Design 20 %	Professional -Student "stepped out of box" but with appropriate, exciting results. -Students start with a design idea & follow and enhance their plan. -Imagination and creativity were visible	Practitioner -The student showed some creativity in ingredients & design but just barely or concept didn't work.	Novice -The house was "the usual" of what you might expect from that pastry.	Beginner -No creativity.
Mixing and Baking 20 %	Professional -Ingredients were well blended and moist not dry. -Understood directions and worked independently. -Got work done in class on in a timely manner	Practitioner -Ingredients went together in the creaming method but measurements were a bit off and had to make adjustments.	Novice -Had to work at home because the lab time had passed.	Beginner Did not get it done on time and had no project or had to use alternate ingredients.
Decorating 20 %	Professional -Use of decorations enhances the holiday theme. -Students went the extra mile to collect decorations. -Decorations must all be edible. -Yard was well designed and matched the "look" of the house.	Practitioner -Use of decorations enhances the theme but were not cohesive. -Yard has some architectural features.	Novice -Very little time was put into doing a competent job, but the whole house was decorated. -Yard was minimal.	Beginner -Minimal decorations. Areas of the house were not decorated. -Yard was not decorated.
Construction 20 %	Professional -Pieces were cut accurately and the house went together well.	Practitioner -Most of the construction is well done. -If the construction wasn't perfect, worked on a cosmetic solution.	Novice -Work was hastily done and the house is a bit tilted or out of proportion.	Beginner -Not much time or effort was made.
Work Ethics 20 %	Professional -Goes beyond work expectations and helps others when team task is complete without needing to ask. -Shares information and product.	Practitioner -Asks what other tasks might need done when team task is complete.	Novice -Does just the minimum expected.	Beginner -Has to be reminded to complete tasks.
