Basketball Rubric - Year 9
Basketball- students will dribble the ball with both hands, students will shoot the basketball, students will show competency during a game situation.

Poor (Level 1)
-Student cannot shoot the ball successfully.

Student can sometimes shoot the ball successfully.

-Student uses two hands instead of one to shoot.
Good (Level 3)
Student shoots the ball correctly.
-Student follows through.
-Student is usually successful in shooting.
Excellent (Level 4)
-Shoots the ball off the dribble.
-Has good rhythm

-Is usually successful under pressure situations.
Dribble Basketball
Poor (Level 1)
Student seldomly dribbles the basketball with control while moving
-Dribbles with palm of hand and head down
-Rigid stance, knees not bent.

Fair ( Level 2)
Student can dribble the basketball while moving
-Does not have good control
-Cannot dribble with head up
-Sometimes dribbles with finger pads
Good (Level 3)
Student can dribble the basketball with good control and proper positioning
-Student dribbles with head up
-Student dribbles with finger pads, knees bent
-Able to pivot while dribbling
Excellent (Level 4)
-Is confident dribbling with preferred hand and attempts non-preferred in drills.
-Pounds the ball
-Dribbles with head up
-Shows above average ball-handling
Lay-up
Poor (Level 1)
-struggles to co-ordinate dribble and footwork.
- rarely uses backboard.
- has limited awareness of where to enter the key.
Fair ( Level 2)
- can speed dribble but does not always adjust speed to complete footwork.
- attempts to use black square to increase success.
Good (Level 3)
-consistently ues angle to maximise shooting success.
-consistently uses the backboard successfully to increase percentage shot.
-Uses correct footwork and adjusts speed appropriately.
Excellent (Level 4)
- Consistently uses court markings to assist with best driving angle.
-uses the backboard successfully to increase percentage shot.
-Uses 2 steps but sometimes mistimes entry position.
Defense
Poor (Level 1)
-Student cannot move feet and contain player
-Poor foot work
-Student is never involved in the play
-Does not understand the concept of defence
Fair ( Level 2)
-Student sometimes gets involved in defense
-Occasionally shows different defensive skills
Good (Level 3)
-Understands defensive concepts
-Jumps to the ball
-Can help and recover
-Plays team zone defense and communicates with team.
Excellent (Level 4)
-Sees Ball/man and applies pressure.
-understands zone defence & need for team balance.
-Is consistently involved in the defensive aspect of the game
Offense
Poor (Level 1)
- Student has limited understanding of attack positioning or their role within it.
-rarely passes and cuts.
Fair ( Level 2)
- Is able to articulate where they should stand in a 5 out offensive strategy according to court markings and sometimes demonstrates this in a game.
-can use voice to inicate they want the pass.
Good (Level 3)
- knows and sets up a 5 out system to begin offensive play.
-Can pass and cut to a new position.
- demonstrates awareness of rebalancing the tam offensive.
- communicates successfully with team members.
Excellent (Level 4)
-Student consistently seeks opportunity to pass and cut with awareness of timing and shooting opportunities.
-Is consistently aware of other team players and need to rebalance the offense.
- Communicates confidently and clearly with team members.
Game Play
Poor (Level 1)
-Student rarely follows the rules of basketball.
Student is rarely a team player.
-Student has little understanding of positioning and game play
-Student often is not involved in the play
Fair ( Level 2)
Student sometimes follows the rules of basketball.
-Student has a fair understanding of offensive and defensive play
-Student is sometimes involved in the play
Good (Level 3)
Student usually follows the rules of basketball.
-Student is usually a team player.
-Student has a good understanding of offensive and defensive play
-student is regular involved in the game.
Excellent (Level 4)
Student consistently follows the rules of basketball.
-Student has a good understanding of offensive and defensive play
-student is actively involved in the game
