Organization & Structure 25 pts All major sections of the paper are represented: Intro, Methods, Results, Discussion.	Substandard - Structure detracts from the message of the writer. - Introduction and/or conclusion is missing. - Thoughts are disjointed and lack transition.	Poor - Structure of the absract is not easy to follow. - Introduction does not preview all major points. - Transition need improvement. - Conclusion is does not flow well.	Fair - Structure of the abstract is clear.	Good - Introduction previews major points. - Transitions are logical.	Exceptional - Conclusion flows from the body of abstract.
Content & Discussion 25 pts 1. Key words are included (words that define the subject of the paper and set it apart from others.) 2. Appropriate level of detail in summary, background information, data and conclusions.	Substandard - Content is incomplete. - Major required topics are lacking or not all included or poorly discussed.	Poor - Major points are addressed, but not well supported or discussed.	Fair - Content is accurate - Content is mostly complete	Good - Major points are stated clearly and are well supported.	Exceptional - Purpose of the writing is clear.
Clear take-home message 25 pts 1. Overall conclusion 2. Significance of findings	Substandard - Abstract does not express why the research is important, relevant, nor why the reader should care. - Too much data and technical details muddy the take home message.	Poor	Fair - Abstract does a fair job of presenting the take home message.	Good	Exceptional - Take home message is clear, concise, and logical.
Style, grammar, and punctuation 25 pts Clear, concise, grammatical writing.	Substandard - Paper contains numerous grammatical, punctuation, and spelling errors.	Poor	Fair - Paper contains few grammatical, and a few punctuation and spelling errors.	Good	Exceptional - Paper contains less than 1-2 errors in grammar, punctuation or spelling. - Language is clear and precise.
