Used to assess long term construction project. This Rubric is designed to be used for all sewing projects-grades 9-12. It may also be used in assessing work of the Fashion Design classes.

Preparation

Student is familiar with all equipment needed for sewing and ironing.
Sample book has been completed for students level. This is both the hand and machine samples and fastener.

Student can thread the machine, run a bobbin and is familiar with how the machine works.All 3 components of the stitch notebook have been completed and graded. Student is ready to start this project..
Good

Student is not completely comfortable with the workings of the machine and has not completed all of the required item for the stitch notebook and/or needs more time with the iron.
Fair

Student continues to struggle with the sewing machine and still needs to learn to iron. The required stitch notebook is still not complete.
Poor

Student should not be handing work in for a grade. Still too many steps in this section to be completed.

Understands equipment, pattern and costume requirements.

excellent

Student is familiar with equipment and all sewing directions. They have labeled all pattern pieces/name, pinned it on the fabric according to the pattern layout, Fabric is cut out neatly and all markings for matching, fasteners and additional stitching. All equipment, notions, pattern and fabric have been assembled to begin the project. And has had the sewing skills sheet graded by the teacher after self evaluation.
Good

Student has completed most of the details listed previously to prepare for sewing. Self and teacher evaluation may or may not have been done.
Fair

Student does not have details completed according to directions. Self and Teacher evaluation sheet is not being used.
Poor

Student didn't prepare to do the work, isn't finished with the sewing prep on time and doesn't have a self/teacher evaluation form.

Student shows great pride in their work. He/She has done fittings as often and needed, made sure the director has approved the garment and called it stage ready. Evaluation form is always scored.
Good

Student shows some pride in their work. the actor has been fit occasionally but director has not yet seen the garment on the actor. It might need changes. Evaluation sheet scored most of the time.
Fair

Student has completed work. The actor has been fit but not approved by the director. Changes must be made.Evaluation sheet seldom scored.
Poor

Student show little pride in work. He/she has not done fittings and the teacher/self grading sheet has disappeared,

Student arrived on time, began working and remained focused; asked question when needed and completed the daily work. Evaluation sheet is completed.

Almost always on time. Works hard, accepts suggestions, is willing to make changes that are needed. Gets at least the student part of the self evaluation finished.
Fair

Generally on time, works inconsistently. Garment is finished, but still needs work. Evaluation not complete.
Poor

Student consistently late, does not ask for help or work in class. Garment is not ready for the stage.
