Literacy Unit Science Rubric: Observational Drawings Students are to create drawings and writing samples of what they observed during the nature walks, readings and experiment relating to birds. For example, the different species of birds, what they use as a food source and their different habitats. Drawings	Exemplary The illustration includes different elements discussed during the nature walk (i.e., birds, food sources and living habitats). Student's observational drawings relate to the content and is able to explain how the elements relate to one another.	Acceptable The illustration includes a picture of at least one elemnt discussed during the nature walk. Student's observational drawings relate to the content, but is unclear on how all the elements relate to one another.	Not Acceptable The illustration does not include any of the elements discussed during the nature walk (i.e., birds, food sources or living habitats). Observational drawing doesn't relate to content material.
Writing Samples	Exemplary The students used standard English grammar, usage, punctuation, capitalization, and spelling to write about the birds.	Acceptable The student used standard English grammar, usage, some punctuation and capitalization, and most words were spelled correctly when writing about the birds.	Not Acceptable There was no use of punctuation grammar and few words were spelled correctly.
Understanding	Exemplary Student provides clear descriptions about how their observational drawing relates to the nature walk.	Acceptable Student provides brief descriptions about how their observational drawing relates to the nature walk.	Not Acceptable Student is unable provides brief descriptions about how their observational drawing relates to the nature walk.
