Description

Describe the subject of your learning experience.

Excellent

The subject of your learning is clearly and efficiently described. It is easy to tell what your learning entailed.
Adequate

The subject of your learning is provided and makes sense.
Emerging

It is clear that you learned something, but you haven't succinctly told us what it is.
Needs Attention

What it is you learned is not at all clear.
Statements

What did you learn?

Excellent

Learning statements specifically and realistically describe what you know, or can do, as a result of your learning experience.
Adequate

Learning statements are general and lack specificity. They are, perhaps, either grandiose or self-deprecating.
Emerging

Learning statements are vague or unrealistic.
Needs Attention

Learning statements are missing, unconnected to the learning experience, involve wishful thinking, or are overstated and oversold.
Reflection

Provide a reflective essay describing your learning. The essay should describe the story of your experience, the methods of learning that were used, any difficulties that were encountered in learning, the applications of your learning, and how the learning experience has influenced your life.

Excellent

The reflection provides insight into your experience with vivid descriptions. You demonstrate sophisticated understanding of your experience.
Adequate

The narrative of your experience is clear and straightforward. You provide all of the necessary elements for the essay.
Emerging

The experience is described in a perfunctory, generic way. Elements of the essay are soft-pedalled.
Needs Attention

The experience is not described, or is confusing, unrealistic, or misleading. You seem unreflective about the experience. Things are missing.
Documentation

Provide artifacts or other evidence of learning

Excellent

You provide artifacts that clearly provide evidence of the quality of your experience. The artifacts seem necessary, interesting, even entertaining.
Adequate

The artifacts you provide document your experience. Evidence of quality is thin or missing.
Emerging

Artifacts are spotty, do not seem reliable, or are sloppy or unprofessional.
Needs Attention

Artifacts are apparently unrelated to the experience, seem misleading, or are simply absent.
Mechanics

Excellent

No appreciable errors in grammar, spelling, or sentence and paragraph construction. Materials have a polished, professional look.
Adequate

Any errors do not interfere with communication or damage author's credibility. May have small problems, e.g., with word choice, but the document remains easy to understand. Clean appearance.
Emerging

Document has errors that damage the author's credibility: noticeable violations of grammar, punctuation, and spelling conventions. Poor or even insulting word choices. Cutesy or careless appearance.
Needs Attention

Document is hard to understand due to errors in construction and mechanics. Confusing, immature, crude, or sloppy appearance.
