Summarizing Summarizing After reading a short story as a class, third grade students will use a graphic organizer to identify the story's main characters, conflict, and conflict resolution. Students will then write a one paragraph summary of the book using proper spelling, grammar, and punction. Graphic Organizer Graphic Organizer	Good Graphic organizer is filled out properly and all relevant information is correct.	Fair Graphic organizer is filled out properly, but is missing some key relevant information.	Poor Graphic organizer is not filled out properly, or the majority excludes relevant information.
Summary Grammar, Punctuation, and Spelling.	Good Free from grammatical and spelling errors. Punctuation is correct.	Fair Minimal grammatical and spelling errors. Most punctuation is correct.	Poor Many grammatical and spelling errors. Most punctuation is incorrect.
Summary Main Characters, Conflict, and Resolution	Good Includes all main characters, conflicts, and resolutions of story.	Fair Includes most main characters, conflicts, and resolutions of story.	Poor Excludes most of the main characters, conflicts, or resolutions of story.
