Scientific Method	Excellent Student includes the purpose of the scientific method, including why scientists need and use this method. Purpose is written in a full paragraph.	Good Student includes the purpose of the scientific method but not in a full paragraph.	Fair Student has a sentence about the purpose of the scientific method.	Needs Improvement Student does not include the purpose of the scientific method.
Experiment	Excellent Student chooses one of the experiments and conducts the experiment properly	Good Student chooses one of the experiments but experiment is lacking in design.	Fair Student conducts an experiment other than the ones provided.	Needs Improvement Student does not conduct an experiment.
Inclusion of Steps	Excellent Student includes all 6 steps of the scientific method. Steps 3-5 are each a paragraph.	Good Student includes all 6 steps of the scientific method but certain steps are lacking in explanation.	Fair Student includes at least 4 out of the 6 steps of the scientific method.	Needs Improvement Student includes fewer than 4 steps of the scientific method.
