Reading Requirement

Expert

The weekly reading requirement was completed by the assigned due date. The reader was able to participate fully in all of the weekly activities. The book was taken home each night and brought to school each day per Mrs. Smith's directions. The bookmark was signed by a parent and returned for check-in.
Apprentice

The reader had some of the reading requirement finished, but was unable to participate completely in this week's activities. The book may have been forgotten at some point either at home or at school, and this contributed to the reader being unable to finish the assignment. The bookmark may have been either unsigned or not returned for check-in.
Beginner

The reader chose not to complete the weekly reading requirement. Activities were unfinished, and the student was not prepared to participate fully in individual or group activities.
Literature Circle Job Requirement

Expert

The reader posted a thorough and well-written job on Moodle. The reader provided details in the post that reflect a great deal of thinking and reflection upon the reading.
Apprentice

The reader posted a job on Moodle. The job includes some details, and it appears that some thinking and reflecting upon the reading was done.
Beginner

The reader posted very little or nothing on Moodle. The directions for the job were not followed to the best of the student's ability. More effort was needed.
In-Class Group Participation

Expert

The reader was an active participant during face-to-face group discussions. The reader shared ideas, asked questions, and actively took part in projects assigned during class time. The reader chose to play an important role within the group, and worked hard to get along well with others.
Apprentice

The reader participated somewhat during face-to-face group discussions. The reader shared some ideas and asked some questions. The reader offered to help somewhat during projects assigned in class. The reader chose to play somewhat of a role within the group, and went with the flow of the others.
Beginner

The reader participated very little, or not at all, during face-to-face group discussions. The reader shared very few, if any, ideas and asked very few, if any, questions. The reader offered very little to the group during projects assigned in class. The reader chose to play a very small role within the group and/or chose to be disruptive within the group.
Overall Effort

Expert

The reader, without a doubt, gave his/her personal best effort to the literature circle group. He/she was always prepared, worked well with others, and gained a great deal from this experience.
Apprentice

The reader gave some effort to the literature circle group. He/she was somewhat prepared, worked fairly well with others, and gained some important lessons from this experience.
Beginner

The reader gave very little, if any, effort to the literature circle group. He/she was not fully prepared, chose not to work well with others, and failed to gain new knowledge from this experience.
Peer Evaluation

Expert

I know that I did my absolute best work for my literature circle group this week. I followed all directions, participated a lot, and learned a whole bunch! I am proud of the work I did!
Apprentice

I know that I did a nice job during literature circles this week. I followed most of the directions, participated some, and learned a few things, too. Next time, there are a few things I could do differently to make myself more proud!
Beginner

I realize that I did not put my best effort into literature circles this week. I didn't follow directions and didn't give my all for my group. I need to make some changes so that I don't let them, or myself, down next time.
