SUMMARIZING A STORY (Grandmother's Song)

Story events	Basic The student told some of the story but did not include the most important events.	Proficient The student was able to summarize the story in details and include the most important events.
Sequence	Basic Some of the events are in the correct order. It was a little difficult to understand the story.	Proficient The story was retold in a very sequential order. It was easy to understand the story.
Story parts	Basic The student did have a beginning, middle, and end to the summary, but there were only some of the plot elements: characters, setting, events/problem, and ending/solution to the problem.	Proficient There was a beginning, middle, and end to the summary, and the student included all of the plot elements: characters, setting, events/problem, and ending/solution to the problem.
Mechanics	Basic The student has some of the summary corrected for spelling, capitalization, punctuation, and/or grammar errors.	Proficient The student's summary has been corrected or has only a few errors in spelling, capitalization, punctuation, and/or grammar errors.
Moral of the Story	Basic The student told some of the lessons learned from the story but did not include the most important lesson from it.	Proficient The student was able to articulate all the lessons learned from the story most especially include the most important lesson from it.
