Approaching Standard
Needs 2 reminders to look and listen. Participates when called on and adds some detail and information to group discussion.
Below Standard
Rarely participates in group discussion. Does not answer questions when called upon, and does not add meaningful input to discussion. Needs 3 or more reminders to look and listen.

Exceeds Standard
Reads text fluently with expression. Reads smoothly with 0-1 mistakes, pauses at periods, and correctly reads punctuation with appropriate voice (i.e. excitement with exclamation point, pauses at periods and commas, etc...).

Makes logical predictions. Answers most questions correctly. Supports answers with one detail from the story. Mostly retells story in sequence. May need 1 prompt. Makes connections.
Approaching Standard
Answers some questions correctly. Does not support answers with information from the text. Needs prompts to retell story and make connections.
Below Standard
Does not answer any questions correctly. Does not use information from the text to answer the questions. Does not make connections. Needs many prompts to retell story.
