Writing Mechanics	Excellent Paper is virtually flawless in terms of grammar and writing mechanics.	Good Paper has some grammatical errors that do not detract attention from the thesis.	Fair Paper has several grammatical errors but is still mostly coherent.	Poor Paper is incoherent and filled with grammatical errors.
Content	Excellent Paper has accurate information relevant to the topic. All information follows the thesis and has a logical order.	Good Paper has accurate information, most of which is relevant to topic. Information follows thesis in a logical order.	Fair Paper has accurate information, but digresses from thesis and rambles at times. Paper is still coherent.	Poor Information digresses from thesis, or paper has no thesis. Information rambles and does not flow. Paper includes inaccurate information.
Format	Excellent Paper follows MLA format. All unoriginal ideas are cited.	Good Paper follows MLA format. Most unoriginal ideas are cited.	Fair Paper follows MLA format. Few unoriginal ideas are cited.	Poor Paper has inconsistent or no citations.
