Identification of letters	Beginner Not able to identify the letter at all or has difficulty connecting them.	Intermediate Some letters are unidentifiable but mostly okay. Some mistakes in connecting the letters.	Good Good identification of letters, but mistakes in connecting	Excellent Has no problem identifying letters or connecting them.
Makhraj of letters	Beginner Not able to clearly pronounce many letters.	Intermediate Some letters are mixed up or unclear.	Good Good pronunciation with minimal similarities can be heard from similar makhraj letters. Minimal to no mistakes in projecting letters.	Excellent Distinguished sound of letters, no similarities of pronunciation between all letters. Excellent projection of letters with the correct rules of thick or thin sounding.
Harakaat, tanween, sukoon	Beginner Confusion between the marks.	Intermediate Some symbols not identified correctly	Good Mostly symbols are identified	Excellent Excellent identification and application.
Shadda	Beginner No emphasis placed on letters with shadda.	Intermediate Sometimes emphasis is placed and sometimes ignored.	Good Emphasis placed, but needs more power.	Excellent Excellent job done in placing emphasis.
Ghunnah	Beginner Always does not apply the rules governing the Noon Sakinah.	Intermediate most of the times does not apply the rules governing the Noon Sakinah.	Good Sometimes does not apply the rules governing the Noon Sakinah.	Excellent Always applies the rules governing the Noon Sakinah.
Huroof Madd / Leen	Beginner No extra long vowels and confused length of vowels.	Intermediate Constantly skipping the extra long vowel but still reading the correct short vowels.	Good Inconstant reading of length for some Mudud and minimal to no mistakes of reading them.	Excellent Distinguished long vowels each time, constantly the same length for respective rules.
Stopping rules	Beginner Does not stop with the rules of stopping.	Intermediate Sometimes does not stop properly.	Good Stops properly at the ends of ayah but not in between.	Excellent At all times, stopping is according to rules.
