Structure

Peer review and revision

NO EXPOSITION! The play opens in the middle of action, and there is some type of closure at the end. The entire play takes place in one scene. EVERY DETAIL MUST RELATE TO THE ACTION OF THE PLAY. You've got ten minutes—there's no time for anything extraneous or random. EVERY DETAIL must be relevant by THE END.
Plot Development

Peer review and revision

The PROTAGONIST HAS A JOURNEY. He or she ends up someplace radically different from where he or she began. BIG THINGS and LIFE-ALTERING EVENTS happen. The end is significantly different than the beginning. There is A POINT OF NO RETURN. Once the protagonist crosses the line, there is no turning back! THE CLIMAX IS WHERE A CHARACTER WINS OR LOSES!
Dialogue and Action

Peer review and revision

CHARACTERS SPEAK TO GET WHAT THEY WANT. All characters have DESIRES, and the characters only speak to fulfill their desires. On other hand, DON’T WASTE TIME TALKING ABOUT ANYTHING YOU CAN SHOW. Images are more powerful than words! The dialogue is realistic and interesting (dialogue overlaps, cuts off, is rhythmic, sub-textual).
Characters

Peer review and revision

CHARACTERS are OFF-BALANCE IN SOME WAY. Real characters are excessive in some areas and deficient in others. This is what makes a character layered and interesting. Fears, interests, and personality are explored, and characters are unique. Each character has a clear voice uniquely their own. Each character has a reason to be in the scene.
Met Requirements

Play runs 9-10 minutes, meets all the required formatting, and has no grammatical errors.
