Student did not mark any important or unknown words.
2-Does Not Meet Standard

Student attempted to mark words but did not follow through on entire piece of text (not all bold or important words highlighted.)
3-Developing - Nearly Meets

Most of the bold words are found but no extra words.
4-Meets Standard

Student marked all the bold words and attempted to locate other important or unknown words.
5-Exceeds Standard

Student located all the bold words and identified other words that were unknown or important to the understanding of the text.
Margin Notes

1-No Evidence

No evidence of margin notes.
2-Does Not Meet Standard

Student attempted to make a margin note, but under minimum or does not make sense.
3-Developing - Nearly Meets

Student made margin notes but below minimum requirement.
4-Meets Standard

Student made the required number of margin notes and attempted a thoughtful interaction with the text.
5-Exceeds Standard

Student made more than the required number of margin notes or was able to show higher level thinking by the margin notes provided.
Providing Evidence

1-No Evidence

No evidence of citing evidence from the text.
2-Does Not Meet Standard

Student attempts to cite evidence on some responses but is incorrect or in consistent.
3-Developing - Nearly Meets

Student mostly cites evidence on all responses but some are incorrect.
4-Meets Standard

Student shows evidence for all responses by indicting paragraph numbers.
5-Exceeds Standard

Student shows evidence for all responses including citing evidence in writing.
