Purpose/Task	Excellent Satisfies the task, connects all ideas to task/purpose. Content is well organized.	Good Satisfies the task; connections are implied with few irrelevancies. Content is organized.	Average Satisfies the task; connections may be unclear with some irrelevancies.	Poor Makes at least one statement that satisfies the task. Remaining statements are irrelevant to the task.
Vocabulary	Excellent Writer goes above and beyond, using a wide variety of vocabulary. Correct usage of new or unfamiliar vocabulary.	Good Write uses a variety of relevant vocabulary. Vocabulary is appropritate to the level and topic.	Average Writer uses some vocabulary. Most of the vocabulary is basic and repetitive.	Poor Writer doesn't use sufficient vocabulary. Vocabulary is below the expected level and often irrelevant to the topic.
Accuracy	Excellent Writer uses correct grammar, noun/adjective agreement, spelling, and punctuation. Minor errors with more complex structures.	Good Writer usually uses correct grammar, noun/adjective agreement, spelling, and punctuation. Some errors with more complex structures.	Average Writer makes frequent mistakes with grammar, noun/adjective agreement, spelling, and punctuation. Errors begin to interfere with comprehension.	Poor Writer consistently makes errors with grammar, noun/adjective agreement, spelling, and punctuation. Errors with simple and basic structures.
Effort	Excellent Writer fulfills the requirements of the assignment, has used class time wisely, and has put care and effort into the process.	Good Writer fulfills all of the requirements of the assignment, used some class time wisely, and put some effort into the process.	Average Writer fulfills some of the requirements of the assignment, rarely used class time wisely, and didn't put much effort into the process.	Poor Writer has not fulfilled the requirements of the assignment, never used time given in class, and did not put any effort into the process.
