Understands the Topic topic includes the relevant readings and the illustration selected (text, video, etc)	Does not meet standards Presenters show some significant gaps and/or inaccuracies in understanding the topic.	Partially meets standards Demonstrates general understanding of the topic; may show evidence of some gaps in comprehension.	Meets standards Solid understanding of the topic; may miss some nuances of meaning.	Exceeds standards Thorough understanding of the topic; presenters show depth of insight.
Facilitates Discussion Avoids excessive presentation, and generates sufficient discussion	Does not meet standards Presentation ineffectively engages students. Discussion falls flat due to presenter difficulties.	Partially meets standards Presenters have some difficulty leading the discussion but show at least some skill as facilitators.	Meets standards Presenters lead discussion well. May need more follow-up questions, to engage students more, or to engage more students.	Exceeds standards Presenters effectively engage students in discussion of topic. Listen well and respond appropriately. Use follow-up questions to expand the discussion. Encourage all students to participate.
Quality of Questions Applies to both Tuesday and Thursday sessions	Does not meet standards Questions need more work; topic covered inadequately.	Partially meets standards Some good questions, but may need more in-depth questions and/or an increase in the number of questions to effectively cover the topic.	Meets standards Very good choice of questions. Key points are highlighted; topic is covered well.	Exceeds standards Insightful, appropriate, and in-depth questions which lead to a thorough and useful discussion of the topic.
Overall Impression If quality varies among presenters, different overall grades will be given	Does not meet standards Presentation clearly needs more work. Presenters ineffectively completed the task.	Partially meets standards Presenters did a fair job overall, but may have had some inaccuracies, omissions, or other difficulties in the presentation.	Meets standards Presenters did a fine job. Students clearly benefited from the discussion.	Exceeds standards Presenters did an outstanding job. May have shown particular originality, creativity, pedagogical skill, and/or insight.
