This lesson is based on drawing from observation where a vase with flowers is sketched. Next, a countour line is established that separates background(negative space) from vase and flowers(positive space). Once this separation is made, the background is furthur distinguished through color using a variety of optional methods using at least three colors. The positve space is to remain untouched as white paper.
  Poor

Did not reach or exceed expectations

1 pts

Fair

Expectations barely or partially met

2 pts

Average

Requirements fullfilled completely

3 pts

Good

Requirements exceeded at above average level of quality

4 pts

Excellent

Requirements exceeded at a high level of quality

5 pts

Proportion and scale

From observation, objects are drawn in correct proportion and scale

Poor

Size relationship of objects drawn are incorrect in relation to objects drawn from observation
Fair

Size relationship of objects drawn are partially correct in relation to objects drawn from observation
Average

Size relationship of objects are mostly correct in relation to objects drawn from observation
Good

Size relationship of objects are correct in relation to objects drawn from observation
Excellent

Size relationship of objects are close to perfect in relation to objects drawn from observation
Outline (contour line)

Countour line is complete and without breaks

Poor

The line that separates postive space from negative space is poorly estblished. Line is inconsistant with multiple breaks. Numerous additional lines are added.
Fair

The line that separates postive space from negative space is poorly estblished with a few breaks. Some or no additional lines are added.
Average

The line that separates postive space from negative space is correctly estblished with no breaks. No additional lines are added. Minor signs of erasing are visible.
Good

The line that separates postive space from negative space is correctly estblished with no breaks. No additional lines are added. Little or no sign of erasing is visible.
Excellent

The line that separates postive space from negative space is prestine and consistantly estblished with no breaks. No additional lines are added with no evidence of erasing.
Color Separation

Spaces are identified by color

Poor

Separation of spece is not effectively reinforced with color. Colors extends into the positive space. Positive space is not identified and is messy with little or no white remaining. Three colors are not used in negative space and is applied poorly with no thought of design or interest.
Fair

Separation of space is rbarely apparent with color inclusion of color to negative space. Color is extended into the positive space. Positive space is dirty and sketch lines may be visible. Minimum of three colors not used in negative space with little consideration of design.
Average

Separation of space is somewhat reinforced with color with minor mistakes of color within the positive space. Positive space is clean and untouched. At least three colors are used in negative space.
Good

Separation of space is reinforced with color effectively with no color within the positive space. Positive space is clean and untouched. At least three colors are used in negative space in an interesting design.
Excellent

Separation of space is drastically reinforced with color effectively. No color exist within the positive space. Positive space is pristine. More than three colors are used in negative space in an highly interesting design.
