Five Paragraph Essay
	Accomplished 10 pts	Developing 8 pts	Beginning 5 pts	Incomplete 2 pts
Introduction	Accomplished Paragraph has an attention grabber and thesis statement; is at least 5 sentences long; includes three distinct adjectives	Developing Paragraph has an attention grabber and thesis statement; is at least 3 sentences long; includes three adjectives	Beginning Paragraph does not have a clear thesis statement; is less than 3 sentences long; does not have three adjectives	Incomplete Paragraph is missing several key elements.
3 Body Paragraphs	Accomplished Paragraphs are easy to follow (ideas follow thesis); give topic sentences and strong supporting details; offer strong commentary	Developing Paragraphs are somewhat easy to follow (ideas may be mixed up); give topic sentences and general supporting details; offer adequate commentary	Beginning Paragraphs are not easy to follow (ideas are unorganized); do not give topic sentences and/or do not provide logical supporting details; commentary is weak	Incomplete Paragraphs do not have all three key elements.
Conclusion	Accomplished Paragraph reviews the main idea and thesis statement; concludes paper clearly; is at least 5 sentences	Developing Paragraph reviews the main idea or thesis statement; does not clearly conclude paper; is less than 5 sentences long	Beginning Paragraph does not review the main idea or thesis statement; does not clearly conclude the paper; is less than 3 sentences	Incomplete Conclusion does not end paper correctly; is less than 3 sentences long.
Mechanics & Grammar	Accomplished Essay has few mechanical errors, spelling errors,grammar problems; contains all necessary transitions and concluding phrases	Developing Essay has some mistakes and/or spelling errors; needs some revisions; missing either transitions or conclusions	Beginning Essay has many mistakes and/or spelling errors; makes an attempt at transitions and conclusions	Incomplete Essay needs to be edited and revised extensively; does not contain necessary transitions and conclusions
MLA Format	Accomplished All directions for MLA format are followed.	Developing The heading and title block are complete. Paper is double-spaced.	Beginning Title or heading do not follow MLA format. There are some spacing problems.	Incomplete Essay does not have title or heading. Paper is not consistently double-spaced.
