	Excellent 3 pts	Fair 2 pts	Poor 1 pts
Analysis and Support	Excellent The writer crafts a response that reflects a critical understanding of the text as demonstrated by strong supporting evidence from the text.	Fair Response reflects adequate understanding of the text as demonstrated by some evidence presented from the text.	Poor Writer's response seems more like a summary of the selection, rather than an analysis; in addition, little or no support from the text is offered.
Supporting Details / Evidence	Excellent The writer's ideas are presented with a topic sentence, strong supporting details, and a powerful concluding commentary.	Fair The writer's ideas are presented with a topic sentence, a few supporting details, and little or no concluding commentary.	Poor The writer has barely addressed the prompt in the topic sentence and supporting details, if evident, are vague and scant.
