Introduction	Good The introduction of the essay is creative and explains the reason for the essay in an interesting way.	Fair The introduction is creative, but doesn't tell what the paper will be about, or does tell what it is, but is not very creative.	Poor Little about the paper is actually introduced in the introduction. It leaves the reader confused or unprepared for the rest of the essay.
Topic sentences	Good Topic sentences cover all information that is included in each paragraph. Paragraph makes sense and fits with the topic.	Fair Topic sentence covers some of the information that is included, but not all.	Poor There is not clear topic sentence, the ideas and information included in the paragraph is very random.
Thought/Creativity	Good It is easy to see that a lot of thought and creativity was put forth to create this essay.	Fair Some thought and creativity was put into this activity.	Poor Very little thought or creativity was put forth to create this essay, with more time and effort the student could have produced a better essay.
Transition between paragraphs	Good Paragraphs flow nicely within the essay and does not seem cut-up or choppy.	Fair Most paragraphs flow nicely together, but some are very rough.	Poor Paragraphs have no flow at all making the essay tough to read.
Grammar/Spelling	Good There are few or no errors in mechanics, usage, grammar or spelling	Fair There are a few spelling mistakes or grammatical but it doesn't take away from the essay.	Poor There are serious mistakes in the paper that makes it difficult to read and understand.
Length/Neatness	Good Final copy is to length and looks very nice and presentable.	Fair Essay does not contain enough information or is of poor quality.	Poor Final copy is too short and the quality of the paper is poor.
