Organization	Above proficient Essay contains an introduction with an introduction, 3 body paragraphs and a conclusion	Proficient Essay is missing one of the components for organization	Intermediate Essay is missing two of the components for organization	Novice Essay is missing more than two components for organization.
Topic Sentences First sentence of each paragraph should tell what the paragraph is about.	Above proficient Each paragraph has a topic sentence	Proficient 3 or 4 of the paragraphs have a topic sentence.	Intermediate 1-2 of the 5 paragraphs have a topic sentence	Novice None of the paragraphs have topic sentences.
Relevant Support The evidence chosen supports your thesis statement. The evidence chosen supports your topic sentences.	Above proficient Each paragraph contains relevant details which support the thesis statement and the topic sentence.	Proficient Two paragraphs contain relevant information which support the thesis statement and the topic sentences.	Intermediate One paragraph contains relevant information which support the thesis statement and the topic sentence.
