	Superior Always demonstrates the following: 4 pts	Excellent Often demonstrates the following: 3 pts	Good Sometimes demonstrates the following: 2 pts	Fair Rarely demonstrates the following: 1 pts	Weak Never demonstrates the following: 0 pts
Mallet Scales 25 % - -Major scales (25 points)
Grip 25 % - - 1st finger and thumb fulcrum - Back of hands facing up.	Superior Student always uses correct fulcrum and hand position.	Excellent Student often uses both correct fulcrum and hand position, and rarely demonstrates incorrect technique.	Good Student uses one technique well, but the other is not used.	Fair Student rarely uses either a correct fulcrum or hand position, and often demonstrates both incorrectly.	Weak Student demonstrates neither a correct fulcrum nor the correct hand position.
Stroke 25 % - - Correct rebound - Wrist stroke	Superior Student always uses a correct rebound with a wrist stroke.	Excellent Student often uses both correct rebound and wrist stroke, and rarely demonstrates incorrect technique.	Good Student uses one technique well, but the other is not used.	Fair Student rarely uses either a correct rebound or a wrist stroke, and often demonstrates both incorrectly.	Weak Student demonstrates neither a correct rebound nor a wrist stroke.
Chromatic Scale 25 % - Full range of instrument.	Superior Zero missed notes.	Excellent 1-4 missed notes	Good 5-9 missed notes	Fair 10 or more missed notes.	Weak Does not know chromatic scale.
Major Scales 25 % - 3 Major scales chosen randomly.	Superior Knows all three scales. Zero missed notes on each scale.	Excellent Knows all three scales. 1-3 missed notes on one or more scale.	Good Knows at least two of the three scales. 4-7 missed notes on one or more scale.	Fair Knows at least one of the three scales. 8 or more missed notes on one or more scale.	Weak Does not know any of the scales.
Mallet Etude 75 % Title of Etude:

Correct Pitches 20 %	Superior All pitches are played correctly.	Excellent 1-4 pitch mistakes.	Good 5-8 pitch mistakes.	Fair 9-12 pitch mistakes.	Weak 13 or more pitch mistakes.
Tempo 10 % bpm = beats per minute.	Superior Always keeps a steady tempo AND tempo is within 10 bpm of marked tempo.	Excellent Often keeps a steady tempo OR tempo is between 10-25 bpm slower than the marked tempo.	Good Sometimes keeps a steady tempo OR tempo is between 25-50 bpm slower than the marked tempo.	Fair Rarely keeps a steady beat OR tempo is between 50-75 bpm slower than the marked tempo.	Weak There is no steady beat OR tempo is 75 or more bpm slower than marked tempo.
Musicality 10 %	Superior The student plays entire etude very musically.	Excellent The student plays most of the etude musically.	Good The student plays the music line to line.	Fair The student plays the music measure to measure.	Weak The student plays the music note to note.
