Level 1 - Calkins
	Poor 1 pts	Fair 2 pts	Good 3 pts
Structure	Poor I can not tell what happened first. This is out of order, or has no action.	Fair I can see action happening, a little out or order.	Good This looks like it makes sense, with a difference between the beginning and end.
Focus	Poor Are you telling a story? I can't understand what it is you are writing about, or even where the story happens.	Fair You are in the story, but is it about you? Story moves from place to place.	Good This is a story about you, what you did, or something that happened to you in ONE place! Good!
Meaning	Poor I have no idea what you are writing about, or what you want to tell your reader.	Fair Story is about something, not sure of the reason.	Good You know why you want to tell the reader about this, and I can see it.
Elaboration	Poor Just telling facts. No story line with action. No details at all.	Fair I see some places where you told me a little more than just the facts. Maybe some feelings, at least.	Good I can see you show me, not telling me something you want me to know.
Conventions	Poor All capital letters, no spaces, no punctuation.	Fair I see some spaces, directionality and writing stays on the lines provided for the letters and words.	Good Good job with spacing, at least one sentence starts with a capital letter. There is evidence of some punctuation.
