The student uses MLA format correctly and cites all quoted or paraphrased passages. In addition, student includes a Works Cited page that is formatted correctly.

The student uses MLA format correctly most of the time; cites all quoted or paraphrased passages and sources correctly. Works Cited page is, for the most part, formatted correctly.

Some parts of MLA format are correct and some are not; quoted or paraphrased passages are cited but not cited correctly. Works Cited page is included but is formatted incorrectly.

Student does not use correct MLA format and/or does not cite quoted or paraphrased passages; there may be evidence of plagiarism. No Works Cited page is included.

Essay begins with clear and strong intro and thesis statement. Paragraphs begin with topic sentences and clearly relate back to the thesis. The essay contains appropriately organized quotes, descriptive language and/or support from observations or personal experience.

Essay begins with good intro and thesis, most supporting paragraphs relate back to the thesis. The essay provides good support from observations and personal experiences. Transitions are used but are sometimes abrupt. Good conclusion which sums up main idea and connects to thesis.

Essay begins with weak intro and thesis. Supporting paragraphs list only some ideas presented in the intro and/or thesis. There is little support and examples are often incorrectly executed. Some transitions are used. Weak conclusion.

Essay begins with weak introduction and displays an unclear thesis. Paragraphs are not well developed; little to no support; conclusion does not connect to thesis.

Student participated in all activities related to the writing process: peer review that includes active engagement with the work of peers, and proof of visit to the Writing Center. Student turns in final draft, rough draft, peer review sheet, Writing Center form, Pearson online tutor or evidence of outside tutoring.
