Poetry Recitation
	Excellent 25 pts	Good 20 pts	Fair 15 pts	Weak 10 pts
Praparation	Excellent It is obvious the poem was rehearsed thoroughly. The student is able to present it without error.	Good Presentation requires more rehearsal. The student is able to present with a few errors from which (s)he recovers.	Fair Student is not well prepared.	Weak It is obvious that the student did not prepare for the task.
Pausing and Pacing	Excellent The student uses pauses and pace effectively to communicate meaning and/or enhance dramatic impact of the poem.	Good The students uses pauses and pacing to communicate meaning and/or enhance dramatic impact of the poem.	Fair Pauses and pacing were not effective in improving meaning and/or dramatic effect. Pauses at ends of lines rather than at punctuation marks. Delivery is in bursts.	Weak Pauses were not intentionally used. Poetry is choppy and “sing-song.” Delivery is either too quick or too slow. Reads words with no logical grouping.
Pronunciation	Excellent The student pronounces words correctly and no word is anglicized.	Good The student pronounces words correctly most of the time and one word is anglicized.	Fair The student pronounces words correctly most of the time and two- three words are anglicized.	Weak The student pronounces most of the words anglicized.
Clarity and Expression	Excellent The student speaks clearly, distinctly, with appropriate & varied pitch and tone modulation; loudly enough for all to hear throughout the presentation.	Good The student speaks clearly and distinctly. Some minor lapses in pitch, tone and volume OR the emotion conveyed did not always fit the content OR emphasis uneven.	Fair The student speaks clearly but is, at times, indistinct, too quiet, and/or pitch was rarely used OR the emotion it conveyed often did not fit the content.	Weak The student does not speak clearly, mispronounces words and is inaudible to the audience. Spoken in monotone.
Physical Presence	Excellent Student employs excellent posture and gestures, is relaxed and confident. Makes contact with the camera.	Good Employs proper posture & gestures, relaxed & confident. Makes good contact with the camera.	Fair Presentation is lacking in two or more of the criteria. Does not always make contact with camera.	Weak The student slouches, looks uncomfortable & makes no effective contact with the audience at all. Tension & nervousness is obvious. Does not make any contact with camera.
