2.Content	Novice -Message is unclear or disorganized. -Demonstrates a lack of understanding of the assignment.	Intermediate -Message is mostly clear.	Intermediate High -Message is clear and demonstrates understanding of task. -Letter may not encourage a response from the reader.	Advanced Message stated is clear, precise, and shows insight into task. -Letter encourages a response from the reader.
3.Tone	Novice Tone and/or diction seems offensive.	Intermediate Tone and/or diction is somewhat inappropriate.	Intermediate High Tone and diction are okay.	Advanced Tone and diction are perfectly suit the purpose.
4.Sentences and Paragraph(s)	Novice -There isn't a topic sentence and sentences are unrelated. -Paragraphing needs lots of work.	Intermediate There is a topic sentence and most sentences related to the topic. -Paragraphing needs some work.	Intermediate High -There is a topic sentence and all sentences are related to the topic but not clearly. -Paragraphing is generally done well.
