The MCP at Work
	Poor 1 pts	Fair 3 pts	Good 5 pts
Tenor & vehicle identification	Poor Student fails to correctly identify the tenor and vehicle in the metaphor.	Fair Student identifies the tenor correctly but incorrectly identifies the vehicle in the metaphor. --OR-- Student incorrectly identifies the tenor but correctly identifies the vehicle in the metaphor.	Good Student correctly identifies the tenor and the vehicle in the metaphor.
Vehicle analysis	Poor Student generates a list of fewer than three characteristics for the vehicle. --OR-- Student incorrectly generates a list of characteristics for the tenor but not for the vehicle.	Fair Student generates a list of four-six characteristics for the vehicle.	Good Student generates an in-depth list of more than seven characteristics for the vehicle.
Metaphor Meaning	Poor Student tries to interpret the metaphor but fails to use list of vehicle characteristics to accurately support his/her interpretation of the metaphor.	Fair Student makes a solid effort to use the vehicle characteristics to support his/her explanation of the metaphor, but doesn't provide another interpretation of the metaphor.	Good Student uses the vehicle characteristics list to support his/her explanation of the metaphor, and includes at least one additional interpretation of the metaphor (supported by vehicle analysis).
