Character Diary Rubric 
The student will write three diary entries from their character's point of view. Entries my span the entire book and showcase the character's hopes, dreams, problems, concerns, and frustrations. Each entry will be 1.5 pages in length and include a quote, properly cited, from the novel that signals the incident about which the character reacts.

The diary entires demonstrate few of the character's hopes, dreams, problems, concerns, and frustrations. Understanding of character could be stronger in some--dimension of understanding limited.
Poor

The diary entires do not demonstrate the character's hopes, dreams, problems, concerns, and frustrations. OR/And the understanding of the character doesn't come through or is inaccurate.
Grammar/Conventions

Excellent

The diary entries are easy to read with no grammatical errors. It is in chronological order.
Good

The diary entries are easy to read with less than 4 grammatical errors. The entries are in chronological order and arranged in a cover.context.
Fair

The diary entries are fairly easy to read with too many( beyond 4) grammatical errors.
Poor

The diary entries are difficult to read and/or understand due to problems of focus and grammar construction.
