Totem Pole Project The Totem Pole Project The student will draw a totem pole using at least 3 symbols that represent the student's family or the student. The presentation must be accompanied by a paragraph explaining the symbolism the totem pole depicts. The student will also choose one element from their totem pole to draw to scale on graph paper. Work quality/effort	Advanced The work done exceeds all expectations. The effort put into this task is the best it can be by the learner.	Proficient Work is done with good effort that shows the capability of the learner. It is evident that time was put into this project.	Partially Proficient Work is done with fair effort, but the quality is not what the learner is capable of. It is evident that the work was rushed.	Unsatisfactory Work is done with little effort, shows lack of quality, and may be incomplete. It is evident little time was spent on the final product.
Totem Pole - SYMBOLS	Advanced There are 4 or more symbols represented on the totem pole. The symbols are authentic and based on the symbol sheet.	Proficient There are 3 symbols represented on the totem pole. The symbols are authentic and based on the symbol sheet.	Partially Proficient There are 2 symbols represented on the totem pole, and/or the symbols are not authentic examples from the Pacific Northwest.	Unsatisfactory There is 1 (or no) symbol represented on the totem pole.
Paragraph	Advanced Paragraph clearly identifies the meaning for each symbol and color. It explains the relationship to the student/family. There are no grammatical errors.	Proficient Paragraph clearly identifies the meaning for each symbol and color. It explains the relationship to the student/family. There are a few grammatical errors.	Partially Proficient Paragraph does not describe symbol/color meanings for each element.	Unsatisfactory Paragraph is missing.
Scale Element	Advanced Scale element is neatly drawn and colored. The scale used is logical - the totem would be neither too larger nor too small if it were built to the scale.	Proficient Scale element is neatly done and identifies the scale used.	Partially Proficient Scale element is incomplete and/or does not identify the scale used.	Unsatisfactory Scale element is missing.
