Capitalization	Beginning Writer There is no capitalization in my sentence	Emerging Writer Does not consistently remember to capitalize the first word of the sentence.	Developing Writer Consistently remembers to capitalize the first word of the sentence.	Proficient Writer Consistently remembers to capitalize the first word and any other words necessary within the sentence.
punctuation	Beginning Writer There is no puncuation in the sentence	Emerging Writer Does not consistently put ending puncuation.	Developing Writer Punctuation is used in the sentence but doesn't always use the correct punctuation mark or put it in the right location.	Proficient Writer Consistently puts the correct ending punctuation in writing.
sentence structure	Beginning Writer Writing sample is a fragment or run/on sentence.	Emerging Writer Writing is a complete simple sentence.	Developing Writer Writing involves compound sentences.
