Keyboard Performance Assessment 
Students perform music (on piano) demonstrating the required technical skills, and the ability to model proper posture and technique, alone or with others. Students apply accumulated knowledge of musical notation, symbols, and terminology to perform music with increasingly greater complexity.

Steady Beat and Rhythm

Distinction

Student plays selection with a steady beat throughout the ENTIRE performance. There were NO pauses or hesitations. ALL rhythms were played correctly as well.
Merit

Student mostly plays selection with a steady beat. There were 1 or 2 pauses or hesitations during the performance. Most to all of the rhythms were played correctly.
Pass

Student plays some of the selection with a steady beat but there were 3 or more pauses or hesitations during the performance. Some to most rhythms were played correctly.
Below Pass

Student does not understand the concept of steady beat and rhythm. There were many pauses and hesitations during the performance as well as many incorrect rhythms.
Pitch

Distinction

Student plays ALL pitches accurately throughout the entire performance.
Merit

Student plays most pitches accurately but there were 1 or 2 pitch mistakes during the performance
Pass

Student plays some of the pitches accurately but there were 3 or more pitch mistakes during the performance.
Below Pass

Student does not understand the concept of pitch. Little to no pitches were played accurately during the performance.
Effort

Distinction

Fantastic effort in learning the piece. The piece was polished and the student was prepared to perform.
Merit

Good effort, but not as polished, not totally prepared to perform.
Pass

Learned piece with insufficient practice, but decently played.
Below Pass

Minimal effort made, not prepared to peform.
