My language is very basic. I use only the words that I know. I don't know many of the words that we are studying.

I'm developing my vocabulary of Colonial Boston. I use a few of the words were are learning in my letter.

I exceed the standard of using authentic language in my writing. My letter is full of vocabulary words that we have learned. I even added other words that I've learned.

My letter doesn't make much sense. It was hard for me to put my thoughts on paper in an organized way. I'm still trying to make sense of all that I'm learning.

My letter makes some sense. I have some sense of organization. There's a beginning, middle, and an end to my letter

My letter makes sense. I have a good sense of organization. There is a flow to my writing that shows a clear beginning, middle and an end.

My letter is extremely well organized. There is a very clear beginning, middle, and an end. All of it fits together to make a complete piece.

My letter doesn't contain enough details to support my topic. I just could'nt think of very much to write about. My subject knowledge is very limited.

My letter has some good details in it. I thought of some things to include in my letter about my life in Colonial Boston.

My letter has a significant number of supporting details. Those details were carefully selected for inclusion in my letter.

My letter is full of very carefull selected details. Each detail was selected to support and enhance the subject matter of my letter.
Friendly Letter format
Beginning
I'm not sure what this is. I just wrote what I thought I was supposed to write. I don't yet understand how to format a letter.
Developing
I have some idea of how to format a friendly letter, though I think I did forget something. I may have left something out or put something in the wrong place.
Proficient
I know how to follow the format of a friendly letter. It is clear from my writing that I followed that format.
Exceptional
My letter follows the friendly letter format exactly. I even went the extra mile to make my letter look as if it was written by someone who lived in the late 1700's.
