Composition This is the overall look of your page.	I Can do Better! The pages show little attention to design basics. There is no real sense of focus. The student stacks items on the page with no order.	It's a Start . . . The pages show an attempt to follow basic design rules. The artist creates a layout that has some order, but may still have some design flaws.	Good Work! The pages are well composed. While not unique, the elements are interesting, not distracting and the topic is portrayed appropriately. Basic design rules are followed.	You Rule! The pages show excellent composition. The elements included are positioned in a unique way that adds to the artistic aspect of the piece. Basic design rules are followed.
Content This is the written portion of your page: copy, captions, and headlines.	I Can do Better! The copy does not contain a nugget or is missing quotations. The headline is missing or generic in nature. The captions are Captions are missing or in the wrong format or less than two sentences.	It's a Start . . . The copy attempts a nugget, but it does not work. The quotations are present, but they may not be informative. Each picture has a caption, but they may be less than three sentences or state the obvious. There is a headline, but it is not in the correct format or does not draw the reader into the story.	Good Work! The copy contains a nugget supported by unique quotations. Each picture has a caption of three sentences or more and shows what happens before or after the picture. The headline is original and matches the copy and dominant picture.	You Rule! The copy contains a unique nugget that can ONLY be applied to this year. All captions are three sentences or more, do not state the obvious, and show what happened before/after the picture was taken. The headline matches the copy and is creative enough to attract readers.
Creativity This relates to how you utilize graphics and sidebars to further the theme in your layouts.	I Can do Better! There is not attempt at finding unique subject matter, such as graphics and sidebars. Sidebars consist of material recycled from last year's book or top-ten lists. There is little or no relation to the theme.	It's a Start . . . Some attempt was made to capture the subject in a unique way. The sidebars are different from what we have done before. There is a tie to the theme.	Good Work! The artist has presented a unique view of the layout's subject. The graphics and sidebars are original and relate to this year's theme.	You Rule! The artist has shown us an unexpected or even suprising view of a topic. The sidebars and graphics are fresh and inviting. The elements of the page expand upon the theme in a unique and appealing way.
Photography This is simply how well you have composed and adapted the photos on your page.	I Can do Better! Pictures demonstrate more than one of the following problems: Some pictures are burry and lack focus. Some pictures ignore directional logic. One or more photos may crop out important parts. Editors: You either lead by example or stay up on what your staff is doing, but not both. Staff: You are not on the internet or games during class, but you do not add much to your section's success.	Good Work! Editors: You lead by example, work during class, and stay on top of what your people are doing at all times. Staff: You work every day and have good input to your section's success.	You Rule! Editors: You lead by example, work during class, and know what your people are doing. You inspire your staff by motivating and encouraging them. You go out of your way to help staff members succeed. Staff: You work every day and have favorable input to your section's success. You strive to help others.
