Biology 1 Cell Organelles Presentation
Students will work in groups of 4 students to produce a presentation on cell organelles. Each student in the group will be responsible for representing a different organelle, and their presentation must clearly demonstrate: 1) the structure and primary function(s) of the organelle; 2) how the organelle interacts with other organelles in the cell; 3) the importance of the organelle to normal cellular function; and 4) a model or other graphic representation of their organelle.

Presentation Content
45 %

-Location of organelle
- Major processes of organelle
- Interaction(s) with other organelles
- Relation of organelle structure to its function(s)
- Molecules used by the organelle, and end products produced

Exceeds

The presentation includes all information relevant to the topic in an organized fashion.
Good

Presentation includes all relevant information; however, it is not very well-organized.
Fair

There is not enough information presented. Information is presented in an unorganized fashion.
Poor

The presentation does not include the required elements. There are many gaps in information presented.
Individual work quality/effort
30 %

Each individual student is responsible for submitting a list of internet sites visited and topics researched; a description of how they will develop a model of their organelle; the actual model of their organelle that is used in their presentation; and a summary of a research article that pertains to their specific organelle.

Exceeds

The student completes all tasks. The work done exceeds all expectations and shows that the learner is proud of their work. The effort that was put into this task is the best it can be by the learner in the time allowed.
Good

The student completes most of the tasks. The work was done with good effort that shows what the learner is capable of. It is evident that time was put into this presentation.
Fair

The student does not complete some of the tasks. Work is done with fair effort, but the quality is still not what the learner is capable of. It is evident that the work was rushed.
Poor

The student fails to complete virtually all tasks. Work is done with little effort, and the quality is not what the learner is capable of. It is evident that the work was rushed and little time was spent on the final product. Work is incomplete.
Group work
10 %

- Members worked well with each other
- Work was shared equally
- Students worked well together

Exceeds

The group worked very well with each other and the presentation was shared equally among the group members.
Good

The group worked well with each other and communicated well. Some members participated slightly more than others.
Fair

Group communicated relatively well with a few lapses in the presentation; some students dominated the presentation and others did not participate much.
Poor

The group did not communicate well and there was considerable amount of disagreement. Not all students participated.
Article Summary
15 %

Students complete a 4-paragraph summary of a scientific article that discusses current research pertaining to their specific cell organelle. The summary should contain complete sentences and be organized with an introduction, two detail paragraphs, and a conclusion.

Exceeds

The student writes a well-organized, 4- paragraph summary that contains all of the elements. Spelling and grammar are proper. The information correlates very well with the main ideas of the actual research article.
Good

The student's summary is at least 3 paragraphs and is fairly well-organized. Spelling and/or grammar is not proper in some instances. The information correlates fairly well with the main ideas of actual research article.
Fair

The summary is less than 3 paragraphs and is not well-organized. Proper spelling and/or grammar is not used in many sentences. The information does not correlate well with the main ideas of the research article.
Poor

The summary is about a paragraph of poorly-worded and misspelled information. The information does not correlate at all to the main ideas of the research article.
