Paragraph one

Poor

*Introduces your name, but is poorly written with no topic sentence or no supporting sentences to back up the topic sentence.
Fair

*Introduces your name and has a topic sentence (main idea).
*Explains in little detail the derivative of name with only minimal explanation of names origin
Good

*Introduces your name and has a topic sentence with two supporting statements
*Statements are consistent and clarify the origin of their name.
Paragraph two

Poor

*Paragraph gives little information about nicknames, how they came about, or any other information about your name.
*No Transitional terms,
*Sentences do not have enough detail.
Fair

*Paragraph explains nickname, but leaves out why/how nickname came about in detail
*Has transitional terms, with some supporting detail.
Good

Paragraph explains in great detailed sentences nickname, and derivative of nickname.
*Has Transitional terms, with extensive supporting detail.
Paragraph three

Poor

*Likes and dislikes about name are not included in paragraph.
*Paragraph is confusing, giving minimal support of why or why not you would keep/change your name.

*Likes and dislikes are explained, but with weak explanation
*Stated that you would or would not keep your name, but gave no supporting information.

*Likes and dislikes are explained with supporting details.
*Stated that you would or would not keep your name and gave two reasons why.
Conventions

*Attempts to spell high frequency words correctly.
*Capitalization is omitted
*Punctuation is random, and sentences are repetitive.

*Usually uses capital letters for proper nouns and at beginnings or sentences.
*Punctuation is used incorrectly, and sentences are redundant.
Good

*High-frequency words are all spelled correctly *Captials used for obvious proper nouns as well as sentence beginnings.
*Punctuation is used correctly, and sentences are written using complete thoughts.
