Reading Conferences
	Above Standards 4 pts	Meeting Standards 3 pts	Approaching Standards 2 pts	Below Standards 1 pts
Reflection on reading	Above Standards Reflection and opinion is detailed and makes connection to text and reader.	Meeting Standards Reflection and opinion is general and/or has vague back-up	Approaching Standards Teacher must search for opinion, or student can not support opinion and only says, "I just do."	Below Standards Student unable to form coherent and informed reflection and opinion.
Retelling/Summarizing	Above Standards Re-tell mentions all important elements in sequence and detail. Is able to answer teacher questions in specific manner, using text to support.	Meeting Standards Re-tell may leave out one thing and/or may be spotty. Is able to answer teacher questions in general manner.	Approaching Standards Re-tell is heavily scaffolded by teacher. Student may go blank on teacher questions or have to "search" for answers.	Below Standards Has no idea how to re-tell in response to teacher prompt. Has no clue in response to teacher questions.
Read Aloud	Above Standards Reader is fluent with no errors or chooses from many strategies to self correct.	Meeting Standards Reader relies on only one strategy to self-correct (sounding out).	Approaching Standards Reader has to be provided word-solving strategies by teacher, but then corrects.	Below Standards Reader shows no sign of word solving strategies even after teacher prompt.
Predictions	Above Standards Reader gives detailed prediction or inference based on text and/or background knowledge.	Meeting Standards Reader gives detailed prediction or inference basede primarily on background knowledge.	Approaching Standards Reader's prediction is limited or inference or vague.	Below Standards Reader's prediction is implausible or inference is off.
Progress in book	Above Standards Easy to tell student is reading 30 minutes and comprehending.	Meeting Standards Student making progress through book, but comprehension may be lacking.	Approaching Standards Progress not as evident and understanding is lacking.	Below Standards No Progress in book between conferences.
