Connections Essay makes connections between Humanities concepts and the literature.	Poor Connections between the book and the broader ideas are loose and/or unclear.	Fair Connections between the book and the broader ideas may be mentioned, but they are not developed fully.	Good Connections between the book and the broader ideas are mentioned and developed throughout the paper.	Excellent Connections between the book and a broader idea is the major focus of the paper.
Depth Essay has fully developed ideas.	Poor Ideas in the essay are mentioned but not backed up.	Fair Ideas in the essay are mentioned, and there is an attempt made to back up the ideas, but the essay is lacking sufficent examples.	Good Ideas in the essay are backed up, although there may be too much repitition or there may not be enough examples to support the ideas fully.	Excellent Ideas in the essay are fully backed up with appropriate examples.
Organization The essay has all of the following elements: a creative title, an introduction, a thesis statement, at least 2 body paragraphs with supporting evidence, and a conclustion. The paper is in 12-point normal font, and it is double-spaced and typed. The paper is at least 1 1/2 pages long.	Poor A paragraph is used as an attempt to support this answer.	Fair The essay is missing supportive evidence, the essay lacks the structure of an essay. Missing one part of the introduction, body, or conclusion.	Good The essay is missing some supporting evidence, however, a three paragraph essay still exists.	Excellent The essay has all of the following elements: a title, an introduction, a thesis statement, at least 1 body paragraph with supporting evidence, and a conclustion.
Language Use/Legibility The essay has been spell-checked and proof-read, and is free of errors. Quotes are cited correctly.	Poor The essay is sloppy, incomplete, and contains several errors which make the essay difficult to read.	Fair The essay is not typed, hard to read due to errors and/or handwriting.	Good The essay is typed, there is some evidence of proofreading the document.	Excellent The essay has been spell checked, proofread, and it is typed and professional looking.
