Band Performance

Articulation	0 No real attempt at articulation is being made.	1 Difficulty with tonguing slurring patterns and/or accents.	2 Student usually follows the articulation marked but there are frequent or repeated small errors.	3 Almost all articulation patterns are correct with only an occasional small error.	4 All articulation patterns are performed correctly.
Note Accuracy	0 No recognizable tune is present.	1 Many notes are incorrect - student seems unfamiliar with the tune. (6 or more mistakes)	2 Shows a good feel for the notes in the piece but there are frequent or repeated small mistakes in pitch. (4-5 mistakes)	3 Mostly correct with a few note errors. (2-3 mistakes)	4 Almost all pitches are performed correctly. (1 mistake or less)
Tone Quality	0 Sound quality is poor due to a weakly embouchure or breath support.	1 Limited resonance - tone is poor or range is limited due to the need for a stronger embouchure or breath support.	2 Fair resonance and fullness of tone. There may be room for improvement in: 1. posture 2. embouchure 3. breath support	3 Considerable resonance and fullness of tone.	4 Tone is very full resonant. A truly characteristic sound for the instrument.
Accurate Rhythm	0 No evidence of steady pulse	1 Pulse is unstable with major rhythmic errors.	2 Pulse is fairly steady but there are frequent or repeated small rhythmic errors.	3 Steady pulse with few rhythmic errors.	4 Steady pulse with accurate rhythms nearly all the time.
Musicality	0 Student Does not give attention to dynamics, tempo or style indications.	1 Rarely uses dynamics and/or follows indications of tempo or style.	2 Use of dynamics is narrow and/or playing is inconsistent in tempo or style.	3 Student displays ability to play with correct dynamics, phrasing & tempo with only minor errors.	4 Student consistently plays with appropriate dynamics, phrasing & tempo.
