Particle Model of Matter Particle Model of Matter Students will create particle models for each state of matter. Students will identify and demonstrate an understanding of the characteristics of each state of matter. Diagrams need to support learning. Characteristics of States of Matter	Excellent Includes complete notes and explanations of characteristics of the 3 states of matter. At least 3 or more characteristics for each.	Proficient Includes most notes and explanations of characteristics of the 3 states of matter. Missing some characteristics.	Poor Includes some notes and explanations of characteristics of the 3 states of matter. Missing most characteristics.	Incomplete Includes incomplete notes and explanations of characteristics of the 3 states of matter.
Matter is made of particles.	Excellent Graphics enhance and support the understanding that matter is made of particles.	Proficient Most of the graphics enhance or support the understanding that matter is made of particles.	Poor The graphics demonstrate only a partial understanding of the understanding that matter is made of particles.	Incomplete The graphics do not demonstrate an understanding that matter is made of particles.
Movement of particles.	Excellent Demonstrates a complete understanding of the concept. Graphics enhance and support the information.	Proficient Demonstrates an adequate understanding of the concept. Graphics may or may not enhance or support the information.	Poor Demonstrates only a partial understanding of the concept. Graphics may or may not enhance or support the information. Spaces between particles.	Excellent Demonstrates a complete understanding of the concept. Graphics enhance and support the information.
